On April 26, 2015, Wuhan Research Society on Shared Built Heritage was officially established. It is a social organization of cultural heritage conservation that officially registered in the Ministry of Civil Affairs and guided by (former) Wuhan Ministry of Culture. It is composed of experts, scholars, relevant design companies, scientific research institutes, universities, consulting institutions, industry research associations and relevant enterprises who actively promote the conservation and development of heritage in Wuhan. The society is formed voluntarily.
Since its establishment, the Wuhan Research Society on Shared Built Heritage has been playing a positive role in promoting the integration of various forces to protect cultural heritage, in ‘Great Tea Route’ and ‘Modern Transition Heritage’ application for World Heritage and in application for City of Design. In addition, the society has an international vision. It fully explores the potential and value of Wuhan’s urban heritage and works with all relevant professions to make contributions to the protection of Wuhan’s heritage and the sustainable development of the city. Through the organization and coordination of relevant international and domestic activities, the Society also tries to create an exchange interface between Wuhan’s cultural realm and international organizations such as UNESCO and ICOMOS, so as to strengthen Wuhan's international communication ability and enhance its international figure.
While undertaking the research and consultation on repairing and reusing heritage buildings, the Society also actively carried out activities in cultural heritage publicity and education. In addition to holding international ’Crossover Forum’ every autumn, it also conducts “Crossover Reading”, “Crossover En Route”, “Crossover Salon”, “Crossover Rostrum” and other activities irregularly.
