I would like to congratulate Wuhan for the nomination as Creative City of Design. This is a recognition of the great attention the City has paid to this essential dimension of creativity and the support it provides to the Institutions operating in this field. I think the nomination of Wuhan is a recognition of the importance of engineering and architectural design for sustainable development. The participation of Wuhan in the Creative Cities Network will strengthen the role Culture can play in the Sustainable Urban development strategy promoted by the City. UNESCO looks forward to developing a partnership with Wuhan in this area in the years to come, in view of the implementation of the New Urban agenda.
